iCoffee Features
iCoffee is a coffee brewing companion. You scan a bag of beans, get a guided recipe with a timer, log how the cup turned out, and ask the AI Barista when something's off. That's the loop. This page lists every feature in the app so you don't have to guess what's in it.
Brewing methods
iCoffee ships 20+ brewing methods. Each one has a guided recipe with a timer, accepts a manual log if you skip the timer, and works with AI Barista when you want a recipe generated for your beans. You can also create your own custom methods.
Pour over: V60, Chemex, Kalita Wave, Clever Dripper.
Immersion: French Press, AeroPress (standard), AeroPress (inverted), Siphon.
Espresso and stovetop: Espresso, Moka Pot, Electric Percolator.
Cold and slow: Cold Brew, Japanese Iced Coffee.
Traditional: Turkish Coffee, South Indian Filter Coffee, Vietnamese Phin Filter.
Other: Auto Drip Coffee Maker, Pod / Capsule Coffee, Instant Coffee.
Track every brew
Save every brew with the variables that actually affect the result: coffee dose, water amount and temperature, total brew time, your rating, taste notes. Add grind size by descriptor or microns, TDS and extraction percentage, a five-axis flavor profile (aroma, acidity, sweetness, body, finish), and photos. Tag flavors as you go so AI Barista learns what you actually taste.
Your Coffee Profile
iCoffee starts building your profile after 5 brews. Around 20 brews in, the trends are stable enough to act on.
The profile tracks four things from what you log:
- Roast preference. Which roast level you brew most often, with a short note on what that says about your taste.
- Origin preference. The top two origins in your library, ranked by how often you brew them.
- Method preference. Whichever brewing method you reach for most. Shown with the method icon.
- Optimal water temperature. The temperature range your highest-rated brews actually used, with the average called out.
The profile is recomputed every time you open it, from your real brew history. Nothing is locked in. If your taste shifts toward Colombians or you switch from V60 to AeroPress, the profile shifts with you.
Your bean library
Build a library of every bag you brew. Scan the barcode, point the camera at the label so the app reads roaster, origin, roast level, and tasting notes for you, or enter the bag by hand. Rate beans overall and per brewing method, track remaining weight as you brew through the bag, and mark favorites.
Your equipment
Track your grinders, espresso machines, kettles, scales, filters, and drippers. Store specs, click settings, manual links, and your own notes per item. iCoffee uses your equipment to pre-fill ratios in guided recipes and to ground the AI Barista's suggestions.
AI features
AI Barista is a conversational coffee assistant that knows your equipment, your beans, and your brew history. Ask why a cup was bitter, what grind to try next, what to buy.
Three things make it different from a generic coffee chatbot:
- It uses your real numbers. When you log a brew at 88°C with 16 grams of coffee, those are the numbers the AI works with. It won't substitute a textbook "92°C, 1:16" default that wasn't actually what you brewed.
- It catches bad math in your saved recipes. If your favorite V60 method says 18 grams of coffee with 100 ml of water, that's 1:5.5, which is espresso-strong, not pour-over. The AI flags the inconsistency and suggests the fix. No other coffee app we know does this.
- It stays short. Two to four sentences for simple questions. Six to eight lines for troubleshooting. One fix at a time, not an essay.
Other AI features: scan a bag's label and pull out roaster, origin, roast level, and tasting notes. Generate a brew recipe for a specific bean on your equipment. Find a bean by partial info when the bag isn't in the catalog. Get feedback on what to change after you log a brew. Generate a custom brewing method when ours don't cover what you want.
AI features need network. Usage allowances scale with your tier (see pricing for current numbers).
AI Taste Feedback
AI Taste Feedback tells you what went wrong with a brew based on what you tasted, and what to change for next time.
You describe what you tasted in plain words: sour, watery, weak finish, ashy, flat. The AI matches your description against the brew you logged and tells you what went wrong. Under-extracted, over-extracted, water too cold, dose too low. Then it gives you the specific change to make for the next brew. Grind two clicks finer, raise the temperature to 92°C, extend the bloom.
This isn't a generic checklist. The recommendation uses your actual brew parameters (the dose, water, temperature, time, grind size you entered) and your bean's roast level. A light roast running sour at 88°C gets different advice than a dark roast running sour at 96°C.
Available on Premium. See pricing for current tier limits.
Why not a generic AI?
You can ask ChatGPT or Claude about coffee. They'll give you reasonable advice. So why pay for iCoffee?
Because they don't know your coffee. iCoffee's AI does.
When you ask iCoffee why a brew was sour, it sees:
- Your last 5 brews with the exact dose, water, temperature, grind, and time you logged
- The bean you used: origin, roast level, process, your rating
- Your saved brewing methods and which one you used
- The equipment you have, including which grinder
- Your rated favorites, the brews you've called out as good
A generic AI sees none of that. It gives you advice that's true in general but might be wrong for your beans, your grinder, your taste. iCoffee's AI gives you advice that uses your actual numbers, not textbook defaults, and it catches mistakes in the recipes you've saved.
